Goodwill truly believes in the adage "You give a man a fish and you feed him today, but if you teach him to fish, he'll eat for a lifetime." Goodwill was founded by people who believed that an individual, when given the chance, can overcome the challenges of disability and other work-related disadvantages to build a better life for themselves and their families. Many people have never known positive role models, mentors, or had a basis from which to build self-esteem. Goodwill provides opportunities for personal growth toward self-sufficiency through training, positive role models, success-oriented employment and positive reinforcement. Although Goodwill is a catalyst for personal development, it is the responsibility of the individual to be successful.
In addition to providing jobs to many who may otherwise not be working, we teach people how to work, what employers expect and what one should give to the employer. We help people get and keep jobs. We also help people overcome learned behavior problems. We do all of this in a positive, success-building environment
Goodwill is certified by the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitation Services as a community rehabilitation program. We are also designated as an employment network by the Social Security Administration. We work with the New Mexico Department of Rehabilitation and the El Paso Community Mental Health and Mental Retardation Center. |
